The Pleasure Beach company has announced that it has acquired the lease for the dormant Magic Harbor amusement park in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA. It is thought to be the first time that a UK company has purchased an American attraction.

The park originally opened in 1964 and has been operated by a series of companies and individuals in that time. More than $1million is being spent on renovations and new attractions.

Speaking to the Myrtle Beach Sun News, Geoffrey Thompson was characteristically positive “We believe we can put the magic back into Magic Harbor. It’s an intangible thing that some amusement parks have and some don’t. The Pavillion downtown has it – you can see people having a good time as soon as you walk in”.

The park expects to hire 175 employees to run the park this season, which is planned to operate from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
