The iconic station building for the Pepsi Max Big One won a top award at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Awards earlier today.

Designed by Fiona Gilje with Philip England, the wood and steel structure stands in an impossibly tight space, cantilevered above the Monorail and Pleasure Beach Express tracks. It also serves as the storage area for the ride’s three trains.

The jury concluded that “This little building makes a fine contribution to Blackpool as it arrives at the centenary of its Pleasure Beach”.
