A new device that has been testing over recent weeks is now fully open. The Reel stands proudly at the northern end of the park near the Casino building.

It is the only ride of its type in the British Isles and has been constructed of wood. The device features several cars that undulate through its course whilst spinning all the while. The ride is beautifully and tastefully decorated and brings a feeling of the Swiss Alps to South Shore.

The ride has been built to a design by Henry Elmer Riehl, who named the ride after his daughter, Luna Virginia Riehl. In 1908 he operated a similar ride in Coney Island, Brooklyn. Construction has been overseen by William H. Strickler, who is also constructing a Noah’s Ark attraction nearby.
