Earlier today, Blackpool’s Mayor Mr H L Hoyle officially opened the Space Tower, the first in the country. It has been inspired by a number of similar structures in the USA. Construction on the new attraction was completed in March.
The attraction is a 160 feet high tubular steel column with an observation cabin that gently turns as it ascends the structure. It offers views across the Pleasure Beach and beyond.
A time capsule has been buried in the 1000 ton concrete base, with items contributed by the Pleasure Beach company and local schools, sports teams and companies.
