In 2001 a static display was erected in the Roller Coaster station, featuring what is described as a ‘1924 car from the Velvet Coaster‘. The lovingly restored vehicle was presented on an angle, beyond the transfer track.

The origins of the vehicle are unknown, as is the dating from 1924. The Velvet Coaster was a side friction ride, whereas this rolling stock features the wheelbase first used on the Big Dipper in 1923. Furthermore, early footage of the Roller Coaster shows it using two bench cars, rather than four bench.

It’s very possible that it did operate on the Roller Coaster at some time (from its introduction in 1933) – we may never know.

With the transformation of the Roller Coaster into Nickelodeon Streak, the station was changed and the car was removed, however it is understood that the vehicle is still in storage on the Pleasure Beach site.
