Arkive – In the Mail – Steeplechase (1978)

The arrival of the Steeplechase in 1977 provided a new landmark at the southern end of the site. In this postcard from 1978, the recently opened ride is playing host to another thrilling race on its three parallel tracks. Despite being almost new, the ride has already adopted the second generation of vehicles that were adapted after a very short time.

It wasn’t until later when the tracks would be painted in different colours like they are today.

The opening of the Steeplechase was the catalyst for the development of South Park that saw significant expansion throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
