Hale’s Tours was invented by George C. Hale, a fire chief from Kansas City, Missouri. The first Hale’s Tours attraction opened in 1904 at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, it became an amusement park staple of the early 20th century.
It was a simulated train ride that mimicked the experience of traveling by train, often featuring scenic routes, sound effects, and some basic simulated motion. A spiritual successor of the ride is perhaps the original incarnation of Derren Brown’s Ghost Train at Thorpe Park.
The location of the Pleasure Beach attraction is unknown. In February 1907, the local press reported that negotiations were underway to bring the concept to the park, by July of the same year it was noted that it was already operating.
