22/06/1988 – Avalanche officially opens

The new Avalanche roller coaster was officially opened today by Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards and the British Bobsled Team, who competed at the XV Olympic Winter Games in February.

The new high speed bobsled experience has been built by Mack Rides of Germany and has replaced the Cyclone roller coaster that was relocated to Frontierland over the winter and is now operating as Stampede.

The golf attraction underneath the ride has also been rethemed to become Alpine Golf.
