The park’s well known Grand Prix ride took its final lap this evening, with a special event to mark the closing of the attraction.
‘The Final Lap’ featured performances from local musicians, live DJ sets, Grid Girls and photo opportunities with supercars. Guests were able to take a lap of the ride for the last time and received a commemorative certificate.
First opening in 1960, the ride has seen a number of modifications. With the construction of the Watson Road overpass in the mid-1960s, the ride’s station was moved up to the new level – it was at this time that the iconic spiral was introduced.
In 2003, the ride’s petrol cars were replaced with new electric vehicles.
