This fantastic video from 1936 has been uploaded by Simon Tattersall and was shot by his grandad during Easter of that year.
After visiting several Blackpool landmarks, the party make their way to the Pleasure Beach, approaching from the north amongst throngs of people in front of the original Casino. They then ride the Grand National in its second season before heading to the Big Dipper that would only just have reopened after its significant modification to create the layout that we know today.
The frontage of the River Caves is also seen, before they try their luck at one of the many games – winning a toy rabbit! Perhaps most rare is the footage of a dozen or so holidaymakers disembarking from the Jack & Jill Slide in the fashions of the day. To round things off, we see shots of the giant slide in the Fun House.
Amazing footage (with sound too!), we’d certainly encourage you to watch it all but if you’re desperate to see the Pleasure Beach section then skip to 6:21.
