Perhaps more than most other amusement parks, Pleasure Beach has a number of unique and challenging structures that require maintenance work throughout the winter months. The Flying Machine of 1904 is the last of its kind in the world and is one of the best examples of this.

The ten arms that radiate from the drive-shaft are approximately 47ft long and with steel cables, support the ten rockets. The timber booms are now replaced approximately once every decade. When this is required, it necessitates the removal of each of the rockets and scaffolding to support each of the booms during the work.

These photos, kindly provided by Matthew Wells show the work being completed in 2014.
