02/09/1977 – Steeplechase officially opens

The park’s new Steeplechase ride debuted today, with a champagne reception and a visit from the winner of this year’s Grand National, Red Rum (who also won in 1973 and 1974).

The new roller coaster has been constructed at the south end of the property, operating in and around the Big Dipper, Roller Coaster and Pleasure Beach Express.

The roller coaster represents an investment of £813,000 and has been designed by Arrow Development and constructed by Pleasure Beach staff. Arrow have previously supplied hardware for Alice in Wonderland and the Grand Prix rides.
