YouTube Pick – Avalanche Opening Celebrations (1988)

This wonderful Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain (RCCGB) video from the launch of the Avalanche in 1988 showcases all the aspects of the official launch day.

In the footage, we see the opening remarks to the assembled crowd, word from star guest Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards followed by he and the Thompson family taking rides on the new roller coaster. Later, at the gala celebration Geoffrey Thompson makes a speech and Mrs L. D. Thompson cuts a cake in the shape of the ride’s alpine station.
