The park’s earliest ice shows were produced by Claude Langdon, who had premiered ‘Marina’ at Brighton in 1936. Leonard Thompson invited him to present it at Blackpool the following year. After three years, the productions were brought in house, with Bettina Merson’s first show in 1944.

The evolution of the Pleasure Beach ice show owes much to Bettina Merson, who steered the Ice Parade from 1944 until 1974.

She was also involved with a number of productions at the Morecambe park and several ice pantomimes in Blackpool.

She died in April 1975.
