17/06/1931 – ‘Hindle Wakes’ filming until dawn

Filming on the Big Dipper took place into the early hours today as scenes for a new talking picture ‘Hindle Wakes’ were filmed.

Dozens of cameramen and mechanics worked under the glaring light of many arc lamps as stars John Buckley and Ruth Peterson made trip after trip on the ride under the direction of producer Victor Saville. Many locals and holidaymakers were also there for the crowd scenes.

The film is expected to be released later this year.
