Significant storms battled the Fylde coast last night with winds reaching up to 90mph. Flooded cellars have also been reported nearby after one of the highest tides in living memory.

The Pleasure Beach was not without impact, the Helter Skelter Lighthouse is said to be ‘leaning like a modern tower of Piza’ after its foundations were washed out. A roundabout is also said to be a ‘litter of wreckage’.

The damage will be assessed over the coming days to undertstand if repairs can be made before the summer season.
