This evening, Blackpool Council’s planning committee approved plans for the vast roller coaster project due to open in 1994. The plans, first revealed last month, received overwhelming support, with only a few concerns raised about noise impacts.

Pleasure Beach Company Director Dudley Westgate who attended the meeting said “We are delighted, even though the ride will not be opened until 1994, it was essential that we got permission early so that work can commence”. Council leader Coun. Ivan Taylor said “The Pleasure Beach must be congratulated for its investment”.

The ‘Project Monster’ name has now been dropped in favour of ‘Project 94’, however the park will be launching a competition to formally christen its new creation before it opens in three years time.

The Tom Sawyer lake and the Log Flume area will be drained this winter and bore samples taken, ready for foundations to be laid next winter.
