This evening, the iconic lighting system for the Pepsi Max Big One roller coaster was recognised with an award from the Lighting Industry Federation. The annual Lighting Design Awards recognise innovation in the lighting sector.

The £300,000 system comprises over one hundred metal halide spotlights that bathe the vast structure in brilliant white light. The units were supplied by Dutch company Philips and were installed as part of a project led by Mick Rothwell.

The glitzy ceremony was held at London’s Savoy Hotel. Speaking after accepting the award, Geoffrey Thompson said “I am delighted to receive this prestigious award which, once again, proves that Blackpool Pleasure Beach is a shining example in the tourism industry”.

The impressive lighting display has been made available for all to see with the release of Simply Red’s ‘Fairground’ music video release last month.
