This postcard sent in 1916 is unusual in that it was sent during World War I. It shows the River Caves and the Naval Spectatorium in a busy scene.

The River Caves is in its twelfth season and has already had a number of modifications. Its facade is not at the same angle as we would know today, it is more parallel to what is now the overpass and Watson Road.

The scale of the Naval Spectatorium building in the background is quite striking – it is very closely modelled on the Naval Spectatorium of Luna Park, Coney Island
