CIVIL & MILITARY GAZETTE (LAHORE)

MONDAY MAY 15, 1933

It is now possible at Blackpool to experience all the thrills of an aeroplane dive while remaining on Terra firma, as it were. Mr Charles Paige, from America, has built a new Velvet Coaster for the Pleasure Beach there.
He has been designing this kind of thing for the last 30 years. His latest coaster is 24,000ft long* and 50 men have worked on it so that it might be ready for Easter visitors.
It is 60 feet at the highest point and among gets many thrills is the aeroplane dip - a 42 foot plunge which gives the sensation of an aeroplane looping the loop. 1000 gallons of paint were used to make it look smart.

*Note – the 24,000ft stat is a typo. The ride is approximately 2,400ft long (depending on the source), therefore it is thought an extra zero was added to the value.
