Name Moon Rocket Opened 1939 Manufacturer Robert Lakin and George Maxwell
The Moon Rocket ride debuted in 1939 alongside the Dive Bomber, thirty years before man set foot on the moon.
This high capacity, high speed ride featured a fixed rocket shaped vehicle on a rotating disk. An inner disk containing a spaceman figure span in the opposite direction, heightening the sense of speed.
The ride was to be one of the last large installations for an number of years due to the outbreak of World War 2.
A similar ride can be found at the National Fairground Museum, although the ride has been retrofitted with swinging cars.
