Efforts to demolish the Casino building have been ongoing for several weeks with crews working late into the winter nights.
Its reinforced concrete construction proved to be too sturdy for traditional demolition methods and the building withstood all efforts until charges of gelignite were drilled into the walls and detonated earlier today.
The building will be replaced by a new entertainment palace, with details expected soon.
