Perhaps one of the most photographed devices is the Reel, the wedge shaped spinning roller coaster introduced at the North end of the park in 1922.

Circular cars ‘reeled’ down the course, spinning as they hit each bend, when reaching the base of the ride, the cars entered a helix before racing into a tunnel under the main body of the ride.

The end of 1982 season saw the closure of the Reel after 60 years service. It is widely understood that the park did look at a new Virginia Reel concept developed by Arrow in the late 1980s, however the design didn’t get beyond the prototype stage.

It would be another forty years until a spinning roller coaster experience came to the park with the introduction of the ‘Enso’ experience on Icon in 2022.
