Ocean Boulevard was officially opened today, with key parts of the retail complex now complete and the ambition set for it to become “the Covent Garden of the north”.

The ribbon was cut by Mr. William Davis, chairman of the English Tourist Board. Despite the gales off the Irish Sea, the event proved to be a success with Geoffrey Thompson promising that the 1990s will bring much more to the Pleasure Beach.

Progress was hampered earlier this year when floodwater engulfed the construction site, however contractor Balfour Beatty and Pleasure Beach teams have worked around the clock during the summer months to get things ready for the illuminations period.
