"Next stop, the Wonderful World building ..."

WP Table Builder

Leonard Thompson visited Expo 64 in Lausanne, Switzerland and determined that a monorail might be the ideal transport option for the park. After the fair, some components of the Laussane installation were relocated to Blackpool for erection at the Pleasure Beach, opening in 1966.

The monorail served as both a ride for sightseeing and also a device to offer transit around the park. Three different types of trains were used on the system: Open (open top, no sides), Semi-open (roof, no sides) and fully enclosed.

Recognising their original home, the semi-open trains from the Monorail were named Lausanne A and Lausanne B

The ride’s layout remained largely unchanged during its existence, with some minor modifications. Originally, the ride ran between Noah’s Ark & the Autoskooker, before continuing in front of the Reel. It was later rerouted around the perimeter of the Casino.

In its later years, the ride operated purely as a sightseeing ride, with only the central station remaining in use post-1999. Other stations previously existed at the north end of the site and on the promenade.

The ride also travelled through the Fun House and later, through a tunnel in the Valhalla structure.

The ride operated until the end of the 2012 season.
