The railway is known to have opened in 1905.
One of the locomotives used on the line (perhaps the only one) was Little Giant – that is said to have only run until 1909. That locomotive later saw service at Lightwater Valley and the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway.
Further details about the tenure of the railway as a whole are difficult to come by, however, several sources note difficulties running a railway on the sands.
