The Grand National reopened earlier today after a £1million refurbishment of the ride’s station. The structure has seen numerous alternations over the past half century, however it has now been painstakingly rebuilt to the original 1935 Joseph Emberton design,

Triple Grand National winner Red Rum was on hand to officially reopen the ride as he also did with the Steeplechase back in 1977.

Two hundred invited guests donned 1930s attire before taking the first rides. The first public riders were treated to a ride for only 5p, the price in 1935.
