The Big Dipper was hit by fire this afternoon when flames broke out in the ride’s motor room. The ride had paused for lunch and was not operating at the time of the incident. The fire quickly spread to the superstructure in the station area causing significant damage.
It became apparent that a 6,000 gallon petrol storage tank was close to the source of the blaze so firefighters worked hard to ensure that the tank and other attractions were unaffected by the blaze.
The ride is expected to be closed for some time.
