This postcard sent in 1924 shows the Big Dipper in its earliest days with its original trains and station. The original station design is interesting – although similar to later designs, it is shaped almost like a windmill and is far more enclosed than the post-1953 fire design seen today (itself rebuilt after another fire in 1975).

As per the fashions of the time, each of the passengers is either wearing or carrying their hat.

The ‘A Train’ and ‘C Train’ can be seen in the images. There is a famous image used in marketing materials showing Leonard Thompson and Mrs L. D. Thompson in a later generation of these same trains (second car, front row).
