Built by the Eyerly Aircraft Company who also supplied theĀ Monster, the Dive Bomber was a popular ride of its era. Also known as a Roll-O-Plane (its production name), two cars were situated at the end of the long boom and rocked on a mechanism that meant the car was ‘the right way up’ when it was at the top of the rotation.
Dive Bombers were a ride that thrilled both riders and spectactors, as one of the earlier rides that performed (or appeared to peform) a looping motion. The Sidewinder was a spirtual successor to the Dive Bomber, opening in 1981.
Note – There are references to a Loop-O-Plane at the park, however it is not known if this was perhaps another name for the Dive Bomber. Loop-O-Planes were the precursor to this model of ride, although similar, there are a number of differences.
