Over fifty years since the introduction of the Brownie Coaster, a new powered roller coaster came to the Pleasure Beach. The Tokaydo Express debuted in 1980, providing family thrills before the arrival of other more notable rides later in the decade. The train zipped through a figure of eight circuit numerous times, hitting its peak speed on the latter circuits.
In 1988, the park built a huge tent structure over the ride, to aid operation in the rain.
The ride closed during the 1997 season and was relocated to Brean Leisure Park, opening in summer 1998. The Pinfari company built five rides of this design, however, none operate today.
