Situated beneath ‘the largest hemispherical dome outside of North America’, the Astroswirl was the new feature for the 1969 season. Riders stood at the perimeter of the ride, remaining in place due to centrifugal at it spins at high speed at an inclined angle.
Also known as a ‘Round-Up’ or ‘Meteorite’, these rides were a popular device of the time and can be found at amusement parks and fairgrounds to this day. The Pleasure Beach ride was an early example, built by American manufacturer Frank Hrubetz & Company.
The ride was relocated to Pleasureland at the end of the 2003 season.
