Monster had been the star of Expo 67 in Montreal, which encouraged Leonard Thompson to purchase it on the spot. It opened at the Pleasure Beach in 1968.

Built by the Eyerly Aircraft Company, who had earlier supplied the Dive Bomber, Monster was a spectacular feature of the north end of the park for nearly three decades. It shared some characteristics with the earlier Octopus ride, although it had multiple cars at the end of each of its arms that span freely.

It was removed at the end of the 1995 season. The Egg Scrambler was relocated into its spot for a single season, before giving way to Playstation: The Ride in 1997.
